A broad, not uniform, collection
India contains many languages, regions, religions and naming traditions, and this collection is deliberately broad. It is not a single uniform "Indian naming system". The names here may be associated with Sanskrit, with Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Malayalam or other regional traditions, and with Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain and other communities. Grouping them under "Indian" reflects geography and shared cultural space, not one language.
Meanings and transliteration
Many Indian names have Sanskrit roots with documented meanings, and those are shown where the derivation is clear. Names from other regional languages, or names whose etymology is uncertain, are shown without a meaning. Because Indian languages use several scripts, the Latin spellings here are transliterations and can vary. Where a name exists in more than one tradition, that overlap is part of how Indian naming actually works.
Meanings are included where reliable information is available. These names reflect a naming tradition, not current popularity in any country.
